Athlete of the Month – June 2020

As I announced at the start of the year, I’ll be publishing a reoccurring article for my chosen ‘athlete of the month’. For May the athlete of the month is… Emma-Jane Stanbridge!

Em first joined the team at the beginning of the year for the build up towards her first ever marathon, which was meant to be London Marathon. Since the very start of the year she has shown great dedication to training and has been both mentally and physically up for it! It was clear and obvious from the start that this marathon meant a lot to her.

She had a near perfect build-up to the marathon having barely missed any of her sessions. In fact she consistently hit so many of her sessions that her Training Peaks was greener than Richmond Park is after a week full of rain.

When London Marathon was initially postponed, instead of giving up and not training, she did the complete opposite and trained even harder. Nothing was going to stop her from doing a marathon! Em showed great signs of resilience and determination by not letting this get her down. Instead she decided to still go on and complete her first ever marathon as a solo run. Seriously impressive and this is one of the reasons why she is my chosen athlete of the month.

Not only has she shown how to positively react to the currently situation, but she is also a big-time team player. Always motivating and encouraging others on our WhatsApp group, whether it’s someone doing a PB within our virtual races or a fellow teammate that has a niggle, Em is not shy to express her support and concerns.

As your couch I am really proud of what you have achieved, you thoroughly deserve this and I can’t wait for you to experience the vibe of London Marathon when it eventually does go ahead. There’s nothing quite like it! Next stop, sub 20-minute 5km!
